Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek
Sunrise over the Annapurnas from Nepal's most iconic viewpoint
Overview
The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of the most popular and rewarding short treks in Nepal, perfectly designed for first-time trekkers, families, and those with limited time. Starting from Pokhara, the trail winds through stone-paved paths, terraced rice paddies, and dense rhododendron and oak forests before arriving at the charming Gurung village of Ghorepani. The undisputed highlight is the pre-dawn hike to Poon Hill (3,210m), where a breathtaking panorama of over 20 Himalayan peaks — including Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Nilgiri — is revealed in a blaze of golden sunrise light. The return route via Tadapani and the traditional Gurung village of Ghandruk adds rich cultural flavour, completing a loop through the heart of the Annapurna Conservation Area.
