Overview

The Muldai Viewpoint Trek (also written as Muldhai or Mulde Danda) is a newly popularised, relatively short trekking route in the Annapurna Conservation Area that offers an outstanding alternative to the heavily trafficked Ghorepani Poon Hill route. Beginning and ending in Pokhara, the trail climbs through one of Nepal's finest Gurung villages at Ghandruk before threading through spectacular rhododendron and oak forests to the serene ridgeline camps of Tadapani and Dobato. The highlight is a pre-dawn ascent to Muldai Hill (3,637m) for a sweeping 360-degree panorama encompassing Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Lamjung Himal, and Dhaulagiri — a view that rival trekkers on Poon Hill rarely experience in such unobstructed clarity. The return leg passes through Ghorepani, with an optional sunrise extension to Poon Hill (3,210m), before descending to the road at Hile for the drive back to Pokhara.

Trek Highlights

  • 360-degree sunrise panorama from Muldai Hill (3,637m) — Annapurna, Fishtail, Gangapurna, Lamjung, and Dhaulagiri all in one view
  • Trek through the iconic Gurung village of Ghandruk and its cultural museum
  • Magnificent rhododendron and oak forests — explosively colourful in spring (March–April)
  • Quieter, less-crowded trail compared to the classic Poon Hill route
  • Optional sunrise extension to Poon Hill (3,210m) on the return
  • Community-based tourism supporting local Gurung and Magar communities within the Annapurna Conservation Area
